In front of a standing-room only crowd, Lynn Dornblaser of Mintel Custom Solutions today outlined the latest consumer meat and poultry trends during an education session, “The Best New Products of 2011,” held at the 2011 AMI Meat, Poultry & Seafood Industry Convention and Exposition at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.
Dornblaser walked attendees through some of Mintel’s latest consumer research and offered meat and poultry processors ideas on how to capitalize on a few of the trends.
Among the research she presented to the group was:
• 63 percent of consumers are
concerned about food safety regarding meat and
• 59 percent of consumers believe private label is as good as branded for meat and poultry.
• 45 percent of consumers say that foods low in sodium do not taste good.
• 45 percent of consumers want simple, easy to read product packaging.
Based on her research, Dornblaser offered to attendees what she thought as the top three growth opportunities for meat and poultry processors: breakfast items, satiety and weight management and easy to prepare foods.
