FSIS Issues 12 Directives on Duties Under New PHIS System

Monday, April 11, 2011

(American Meat Institute)

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued 12 directives that address inspection personnel duties under the Public Health Information System (PHIS), which began today in selected circuits.

With the exception of Directives 13000.1 and 13000.2, which provide inspection personnel with information on how to use the PHIS task calendar, these directives previously existed but have been amended to reflect the PHIS approach. Within these directives, common changes include the switching references from the Performance Based Inspection System (PBIS) to PHIS and instructions to inspectors on how to enter data into PHIS.  Directive 5000.1 also addresses new Hazard Verification Analysis activities.
