New EU Food Labeling Rules Move ForwardWednesday, March 9, 2011

The European Union (EU) Council of Agriculture Ministers recently adopted a common position on its draft regulation on new food labeling rules.
Under the new rules, nutrition information, which is currently voluntary, would become mandatory unless nutrient content claims are made.
The EU Council’s common position does not yet constitute a definitive regulation. The draft will now be forwarded to the European Parliament for a “second reading.” It is anticipated that the regulation will be published late 2011 or possibly as late as mid-2012.share on facebook share on twitter
