Senate Passes Food Safety Modernization ActTuesday, November 30, 2010

The U.S. Senate today passed S. 510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, by a vote of 73-25.
The House late last year passed its version of the food safety bill, H.R. 2749, Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009. Generally, a conference between the House and Senate would be held to resolve the difference between the two versions of the bill before being sent to the President for his signature, but with the limited amount of time available during this lame duck session of Congress, the path forward for these bills is still unclear.
