FSIS Reissues Notice on Compositing of Environmental Samples During an Risk-Based Listeria SamplingThursday, October 14, 2010
(American Meat Institute)
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued Notice 59-10 Compositing of Environmental Samples Collected During Routine Risk-Based Listeria monocytogenes (RLm) Sampling.
This notice reissues the content of FSIS Notice 62-09 that provided collection instructions to Enforcement, Investigations and Analysis Officers (EIAOs) for environmental (non-food contact) samples during an RLm. Instructions for the completion of FSIS Form 10, 210-3 are also provided.
The methodology for collecting the RLm environmental samples at the official establishment has not changed — samples will still be collected individually. However, with the issuance of this notice, a single RLMENVC form will be used for all five swab samples and one result will be reported.
FSIS will conduct RLM sampling at the time of Food Safety Assessments (FSA).
