President Obama today delivered a major speech on immigration reform, calling for passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR). AMI’s Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs Mike Brown was invited and attended the President’s remarks, which were delivered at American University.

Also in attendance were Secretary of Labor Hilda Lucia Solis, former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez from the Bush Administration, Representative Jeff flake (R-AZ), New York City Mayor Michel Bloomberg, the Reverend Al Sharpton, Jr. and many immigration advocacy groups.

AMI continues to educate and provide further detail on AMI’s E-Verify proposal to the White House, the Senate, the House and key Administration officials involved in the immigration reform process.

The key components of AMI’s proposal include: a seven year phase in by size of a company; a reduction in the number of documents that can be used in the hiring process; a voluntary, pilot biometric identifier system; protection of Social Security Administration; a Federal preemption provision; a safe harbor provision for employers using the program properly; an exemption for temporary workers, H2A program; and three GAO studies.
