The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking data and other information to assist the agency in regulating front of package and retail shelf tag nutrition labeling.
According to the April 26, 2010, Federal Register Notice, "Front-of-Pack and Shelf Tag Nutrition Symbols; Establishment of Docket; Request for Comments and Information,” the goal of the effort is “to maximize the number of consumers who readily notice, understand, and use point-of-purchase information to make more nutritious choices for themselves and their families."
Comments are due 90 days after the notice
