FDA to Extend Feed Rule Implementation Deadline 60 DaysTuesday, March 17, 2009
(American Meat Institute)
The April 27 implementation deadline of BSE feed rule amendments prohibiting the use of high-risk cattle material in feed for all animal species will be extended 60 days, in accordance with an Executive Order issued by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel immediately following the president's inauguration. That order directed agencies to review rules not yet implemented, to consider extending the implementation date by 60 days, and if the implementation date is extended, to allow for 30 days of additional public comment.
FDA expects to publish a Federal Register notice in the near future with the formal announcement.
