E-Verify Legislation Passes the House of RepresentativesFriday, August 1, 2008

The House of Representatives has passed an E-Verify bill (H.R. 6633) which would reauthorize the E-Verify program for five years, provide for two GAO studies and ensure that the Social Security Administration received appropriate compensation from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for their involvement in the E-Verify program. A copy of the legislation may be found at the following link: http://www.meatinstitute.org/ht/a/GetDocumentAction/i/40671.
The first GAO study will evaluate the erroneous tentative non-confirmations under the E-Verify program and establish the causes of the non-confirmations, the process by which they are remedied and the effect of the non-confirmations on individuals, employers and Federal agencies. The second study will evaluate the impact of the E-Verify program on small businesses.
We expect consideration of E-Verify legislation to occur in the Senate in September.share on facebook share on twitter
