FSIS Releases Third Food Defense Plan SurveyWednesday, July 30, 2008
(American Meat Institute)
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued Notice 48-08, announcing a third food defense plan survey. The survey will be conducted August 1-30, 2008, and will gather data about the industry’s voluntary adoption of functional food defense plans.
The results from the first survey taken in August 2006 established a baseline adoption rate of 27 percent. The second survey, conducted in November 2007, showed an increased adoption rate of 31 percent. FSIS’ goal is a food defense plan adoption rate of 90 percent.
Inspection program personnel (IPP) will receive the survey questions through the Performance-Based Inspection System (PBIS). The notice provides instructions to IPP on how to complete the questions in the survey and describes how FSIS will analyze the data received from the results.
