Proposed Regulation Would Require Federal Contractors To Use E-VerifyThursday, June 12, 2008
(American Meat Institute)
The Civilian Agency Acquisition Council and the Defense Acquisition Regulations Council (Councils) are proposing to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to require federal contractors and subcontractors to use the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS) E-Verify system, according to a notice published today in the Federal Register.
Under the rule, the E-Verify System would be required to verify employment eligibility of all newly hired employees of the contractor or subcontractor and all existing employees.
The Government awards numerous contracts each fiscal year worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Interested parties should submit written comments to the FAR Secretariat on or before August 11, 2008 to be considered in the formulation of a final rule.
