APHIS today reopened and extended the period for which comments will be accepted on the Scrapie Eradication Uniform Methods and Rules (UMR). The comment period, which ended June 19, 2001, was reopened and will now close on September 20, 2001, according to a notice in the August 30, 2001, Federal Register.
The UMR are a set of
procedures and standards adopted by APHIS and
States for controlling and eradicating scrapie.
The UMR will be reviewed at least annually by
members of the livestock industry and
appropriate state and federal agencies and will
be drafted, revised and published as needed by
The document has been approved by
APHIS and contains recommendations for the
state animal health authorities, industry
representatives, National Institute for Animal
Agriculture and the U.S. Animal Health
