67 Herdmates of Texas Cow Test Negative for BSE

Monday, July 11, 2005

USDA's Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has reported BSE testing results as part of the on-going investigation instituted following the finding of a BSE positive cow from the state of Texas. All of the 67 adult herdmates of the BSE-positive cow tested negative according to USDA. The Bio-Rad test method was used on the adult animals at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa.

The testing of animals located at the positive animal’s original ranch is now complete. The International Reference Laboratory in Weybridge, England, confirmed results of the positive BSE cow on June 24. APHIS continues to track animals of interest and testing will be done as those animals are located.
