Trade Promotion Authority is essential to the success of a new round of WTO global trade negotiations, AMI President J. Patrick Boyle said at a press conference today at USDA.
Boyle joined Secretary of
Agriculture Ann Veneman and leaders of five
other agriculture/agribusiness groups today in
stressing the importance of TPA in relation to
the launch of a new round of WTO global trade
negotiations. The associations have come
together in support of "AgTrade: A U.S.
Coalition to Promote Agricultural Trade."
AgTrade co-chair Chuck Connor also joined the
Boyle cited a recent USDA
report that found that global agricultural
tariffs average an astounding 62 percent –
compared with only 4 percent for manufactured
goods. Meanwhile, U.S. agricultural tariffs
average 12 percent, the lowest average in the
world. Leaders of American Farm Bureau
Federation, National Milk Producers Federation,
National Pork Producers Council, USA Rice
Federation and Grocery Manufacturers of America
also made remarks at the press
