The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a final response to a petition by Sampco, Inc., requesting that FSIS amend its regulations and other policy documents to establish a consistent policy on the use of labeling of heart meat in certain meat products. FSIS concluded that the available information did not support FSIS amending its regulations to permit the use of beef heart meat in corned beef at levels other than those permitted by the current standard or without labeling that lists the inclusion of beef heart meat. The full response is available here.
