NAMI Discusses Plant Based Alternative Issue With New Yorker.

Meat Institute public affairs and regulatory staff met with New Yorker reporter Tad Friend for an upcoming story about the Impossible Burger and growing availability of plant-based products in the market. Friend had many questions about the environmental impact of meat production and the various steps the industry is taking to reduce its footprint. The discussion also focused on the importance of a level regulatory playing field and concerns about plant-based products using regulated terms without prominent labeling indicating they are plant-based. Friend also spoke to the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and Good Food Institute while in Washington, DC and has spoken to experts such as Frank Mitloehner for what he says is a deep dive on the issue. The story is expected to publish in late summer or early fall.
