San Diego Approves Waiver for Meat Trays from Plastic Reduction Ordinance

The city of San Diego approved a waiver for meat trays from the Single Use Plastic Reduction Ordinance through May 23, 2021. The ordinance, which went into effect in February 2019, prevents San Diego establishments from purchasing or acquiring food service ware made from polystyrene foam. The waiver exempts polystyrene foam meat trays used for raw meat, fish and poultry sold in San Diego grocery stores. The waiver was issued to provide grocery stores and product producers and distributors the necessary time to transition to different packaging.
