Senate Committee to Vote on Three USDA NomineesTuesday, May 14, 2019

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry will meet Tuesday, May 14 to consider three USDA nominees: Mindy Brashears for food safety undersecretary, Naomi Earp for civil rights assistant secretary, and Scott Hutchins for research, education and economics undersecretary. Brashears, Earp and Hutchins were originally nominated in 2018 and were advanced by the Senate Agriculture Committee late last year, however, the full Senate failed to vote on the three nominees before the legislative session ended. President Trump re-nominated the three when the new Congress began in January, and as they awaited confirmation, USDA Secretary Perdue appointed them to serve in deputy roles at the agency, which do not require Senate confirmation.
The committee is set to meet off the Senate floor, in conjunction with floor votes. If the Committee confirms all three nominees, they will then be teed up for a full Senate vote at a later date.share on facebook share on twitter
