U.S. Negotiators Set to Travel to Beijing for Additional Trade Talks

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will return to China this week for more bilateral trade talks, as the two countries work to resolve their ongoing trade dispute. President Donald Trump, however, last week said the U.S. will not immediately lift tariffs on $250 billion in Chinese imports, even if the two sides reach a trade deal in the coming weeks. The Trump Administration has indicated tariffs would remain in place to ensure China abides by the terms of the eventual agreement. China, though, is reportedly reluctant to address some of the Trump Administration’s concerns, or remove its retaliation against U.S. imports, if the U.S. duties remain in place.
