The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) published a collection of chapter and annex fact sheets summarizing the content of the recently signed U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The fact sheets cover agricultural trade, intellectual property, sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical barriers to trade, among other topics. The agriculture chapter summary explains the U.S.’s increased access to Canada’s poultry market and underscores provisions to enhance information exchange and cooperation on agricultural biotechnology trade-related matters.
The U.S. International Trade Commission will now study the agreement and issue a report on the effects of the USMCA on the economy, including its impact on different sectors and on U.S. consumers. This report is due 105 days after the official signing. It is unlikely Congress will consider the USMCA until that analysis is complete.
