USDA last week filed with Congress the charter for the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC or Committee), as required by the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The charter detailed the DGAC's mission, specific duties and general operational characteristics. Although USDA and HHS will work collectively on the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, USDA will serve as the administrative lead. This year's charter referenced the Agricultural Act of 2014, which mandates the addition of dietary guidance for pregnant women and infants and toddlers from birth to 24 months of age. The charter also explained the steps USDA and HHS took to identify the topics and scientific questions to be examined in the DGAC's review of evidence. In addition, the Charter states, "The Committee will limit its review and advice to dietary guidance for human nutrition on the topics and scientific questions specified by the Departments.
