Frank Yiannas to replace Ostroff at FDA

Frank Yiannas, Walmart’s vice president for food safety, will replace retiring Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine Stephen Ostroff. Yiannas will lead FDA’s Office of Foods and Veterinary Medicine as deputy commissioner for food policy and response. Ostroff will remain at FDA until January 5, 2019, as a senior adviser. In his new role, Yiannas will lead the continued implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act, working in close collaboration with the leadership of Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, the Center for Veterinary Medicine and the food components of the Office of Regulatory Affairs. He also will serve as a senior scientific adviser to the FDA commissioner on various food safety and supply chain matters and will help lead policy and associated external engagement activities related to food safety and animal health, among other responsibilities.
