USDA Requests Comments on New Locations for ERS, NIFAThursday, August 23, 2018

USDA is seeking expressions of interests from state and local governments, industry, academia and other interested parties regarding potential new locations for the Economic Research Service (ERS) and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The NIFA facility would require approximately 90,000 square feet to house 360 employees, whereas the ERS facility would need about 70,000 square feet for 260 employees. Comments are due by September 14, 2018.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue earlier this month announced additional changes to USDA’s structure as part of the Administration’s ongoing reorganization efforts. Perdue said USDA will realign ERS, currently housed under the Research, Education and Economics mission area, with the Office of the Chief Economist. The reorganization also will entail moving most employees of ERS and NIFA outside of Washington, DC – a process that is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. USDA is pursuing these changes for several reasons, including improving ERS and NIFA's ability to hire and retain employees — many of whom apply after graduating from land-grant universities far from Washington, DC – with training and interests in agriculture.share on facebook share on twitter
