The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) held public hearings July 24-25 regarding proposed tariffs on approximately $16 billion worth of Chinese imports to the U.S. stemming from its Section 301 investigation into China’s industrial and intellectual property policies. The U.S. on July 6 levied 25 percent tariffs on 818 Chinese imports worth approximately $34 billion as a result of the Section 301 investigation’s findings. China retaliated with 25 percent tariffs on $34 billion worth of U.S. imports, including imports of U.S. pork to the country. The U.S. is soon expected to make a determination regarding the proposed tariffs on $16 billion worth of Chinese imports.
