The Foundation for Meat and Poultry Research and Education co-sponsored a session June 11 at the American Society for Nutrition’s Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts that evaluated evidence standards and the impacts of including the birth to 24-months population in the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). Vice President of Regulatory and Scientific Programs Susan Backus participated in the session, which drew more than 100 attendees. The session showcased the methodology and standards being used to decide whether evidence is sufficient to include this age group in future editions of the DGA. The session also discussed food pattern modeling and methodology for developing questions and executing systematic reviews for this population. Presenters included J. Thomas Brenna, Ph.D., with University of Texas at Austin; Robert Murray, MD, with Ohio State University; and Kartik Shankar with Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center.
