The House of Representatives this week will vote on a pair of immigration bills in advance of a second vote on the Farm Bill. One measure, Securing America’s Future Act of 2018 (H.R. 4760) introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), would reform the H-2A agricultural guestworker program, transferring it to USDA from the Department of Labor.
The Meat Institute and Barnyard Coalition sent a letter to House Republican leaders ahead of the vote reaffirming their support for the agricultural guestworker visa program and urging that it be included in all legislative packages addressing immigration and border security issues considered this week by the House. The organizations, in the letter, called the proposal an important first step in establishing a stable agricultural workforce that will help ensure continued growth in the agricultural industry and animal agriculture sector, in particular.share on facebook share on twitter
