FDA to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Foods Produced Using Animal Cell Culture Technology

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will host a public meeting July 12 to discuss foods produced using animal cell culture technology. The Meat Institute has registered to provide comments. The meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Harvey W. Wiley Federal Building in College Park, Maryland. FDA requested input addressing the considerations specific to animal cell culture technology that would be appropriate to include when evaluating food produced by this method of manufacture, the variations in manufacturing methods that would be relevant to safety of foods produced by animal cell culture technology, the kinds of substances that would be used in manufacturing foods produced using animal cell culture technology and the hazards associated with the producing foods using animal cell culture technology, among other topics. Attendees are encouraged to register online to attend the meeting in person or by live webcast. FDA is accepting comments regarding the public meeting until September 25, 2018.
