The law firm Hogan Lovells published a memorandum detailing updates regarding Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) implementation. The memo describes the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) new tool to assist companies meet FSMA's supplier verification requirements. The tool, FDA's Data Dashboard, retrieves information regarding warning letters, import alerts, recalls, import refusals, inspection classification and other firm-specific compliance and enforcement actions.
The memo also explains FDA's decision to postpone launching the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program (VQIP) until October 1, 2019, the start of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 benefit year. VQIP is a voluntary, fee-based program that offers expedited review and entry of food into the U.S. According to the memo, FDA is considering an early opening for the FY 2020 application portal later this year, after certification bodies have been accredited under the agency's Accredited Third Party Certification Program.share on facebook share on twitter
