(North American Meat Institute)
The Small Business Administration (SBA) will host a teleconference June 14, 2018, at 1 p.m. ET, to discuss the Agricultural Marketing Service's (AMS) proposed rule to establish the National Bioengineered (BE) Food Disclosure Standard, which was mandated by Congress in 2016. To participate in the teleconference, contact Prianka Sharma . AMS also will release a pre-recorded webinar summarizing the provisions and potential implications of the proposed rule. The webinar will be available for download on June 1, 2018.
The proposed rule would require food manufacturers and other entities that label foods for retail sale to disclose information about BE food and BE food ingredient content. According to AMS, the proposed rule is intended to provide consumers a mandatory uniform national standard for information about the BE status of foods. Most basic meat and poultry products, such as muscle cuts, ground product and processed product, in which the predominant ingredient is meat or poultry, would be exempt from the new standard.share on facebook share on twitter
