(North American Meat Institute)

The Asia-Pacific Working Group of the U.S. Food and Agriculture Dialogue for Trade, to which the Meat Institute belongs, sent a letter to President Donald Trump detailing priorities for U.S.-China trade and underscoring the importance of renewed U.S. engagement in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The Working Group said it supports swift, constructive, high-level negotiations between the U.S. and China to avoid the negative impacts of increased tariffs and other restrictions that would harm both countries' economies. The Working Group also encouraged the administration to adopt an ambitious, pro-growth trade agenda with Asia-Pacific countries and commence negotiations with CPTPP members to open new markets and preserve existing access for American food and agricultural products.
