NAFTA Talks Progressing SlowlyTuesday, February 6, 2018

As the sixth round of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations concluded last week in Montreal, Canada, trade ministers reported progress had been made on food safety measures, digital trade and telecommunications. Negotiators from the U.S., Canada and Mexico also reached agreement on an anti-corruption chapter. Canadian negotiators, however, countered several Trump Administration proposals, including proposals regarding rules of origin and seasonal produce, leading many observers to believe talks could persist into 2019. Representatives from the three countries will meet for the seventh round of negotiations February 26 - March 6 in Mexico City.
