Three dozen Republican senators last week wrote to President Donald Trump urging him to modernize and preserve the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). In the letter, lawmakers detailed the economic benefits of the agreement, particularly for the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, and said that modernizing it would be "the next step to advance the economy." The senators highlighted the fact that U.S. agricultural exports to both Canada and Mexico have quadrupled since NAFTA's entry into force in 1994, and underscored the benefits of the agreement for American consumers.
"Modernizing NAFTA to increase market access, expand energy exports to maximize domestic energy production and including provisions on intellectual property and e-commerce will make this agreement even more beneficial to the United States," the senators wrote.share on facebook share on twitter
