NAFTA Round Six Talks CommenceTuesday, January 23, 2018

The sixth round of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiation talks commenced this weekend in Montreal, Canada. The discussions are expected to focus on agriculture, digital trade, technical barriers to trade, good regulatory practices and customs and trade facilitation, among other topics. Negotiators also are scheduled to spend significant time deliberating and finalizing the chapter on sanitary and phytosanitary measures. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Mexican Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland will join the final day of negotiations, January 29.
Meanwhile, the Meat Institute will participate in a Social Media Day of Action, tomorrow, January 23, to promote the positive benefits of NAFTA for the meat industry and to encourage negotiators to remain committed to the successful modernization of the agreement.share on facebook share on twitter
