Meat Institute Holds Board of Directors Meeting and Annual Meeting; Elects New Officers

Meat Institute board members convened last week in Washington, DC, for the association's Fall Board of Directors meeting and annual meeting. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Canadian Meat Council Board of Directors meeting. The event featured regulatory and legislative issues update panels with top USDA officials and staff from the House and Senate Agriculture Committees. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) addressed Meat Institute members during a networking breakfast.

The Meat Institute also announced the officers who will guide the organization in 2018.

John Vatri, vice president of operations at Cardinal Meat Specialists, Ltd., will serve as chairman of the Board of Directors, while Joe Maas, co-owner and vice president of operations at JTM Provisions, was elected vice chairman.

Bar-S Foods Co. President and CEO Warren Panico will serve as treasurer and Brad McDowell, president of AB Foods LLC, was elected secretary. Mike Townsley, president of Bob Evans Farms, Inc., becomes immediate past chairman.
