Scott Gottlieb Confirmed as FDA commissioner

The U.S. Senate voted 57-42 to confirm Scott Gottlieb as the 23rd Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Gottlieb, a practicing physician and former resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute previously served as FDA's deputy commissioner for medical and scientific affairs from 2005 to 2007. Gottlieb was also a venture partner at New Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm. Prior to his FDA position, Gottlieb served as senior policy adviser to the administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and his bachelor's degree in economics from Wesleyan University.
