Gottlieb Nominated to Lead FDA

President Donald Trump nominated Scott Gottlieb, a practicing physician and resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, to serve as the 23 rd commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Gottlieb previously served as FDA’s deputy commissioner for medical and scientific affairs from 2005 to 2007. If confirmed by the Senate, Gottlieb will replace Stephen Ostroff, FDA deputy commissioner for foods and veterinary medicine, who has been serving as acting commissioner since January 2017. Gottlieb is also a venture partner at New Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm. Prior to his FDA position, Gottlieb served as senior policy adviser to the administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wesleyan University.
