John Murphy, senior vice president for international policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, penned an op-ed in which he argued that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement would produce more high-skill, high-wage jobs for American workers. Murphy cited data showing manufacturing and service sector export-oriented jobs pay wages that average 18 to 20 percent higher than non-export related jobs. Murphy highlighted economic impact studies showing TPP would add $77 billion per year to U.S. real incomes by 2025. Murphy also touted other TPP-related benefits including the agreement's enhanced intellectual property protections, which would support additional jobs related to digital commerce, software, movies, television and other activities.
