(North American Meat Institute)

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) approved peroxyacetic acid, acidified sodium chlorite and hypbromous acid water from 1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH) for use on U.S. beef exports to the country. These updates were added to the Food Safety and Inspection Service's Export Library . Peroxyacetic acid had always been listed as approved in the library, but Japan's MHLW granted full approval of the product. These products should be used in accordance with FSIS Directive 7120.1, Safe and Suitable Ingredients Used in the Production of Meat, Poultry and Egg Products. For questions regarding the approval announcement, contact Travis Arp, Ph.D., director of Market Access and Export Services at the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
