Meat Institute Encourages Members to Engage in TPP Grassroots Letter Campaign

The Meat Institute sent a letter to members encouraging them to urge their Members of Congress to approve the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. The letter touted the TPP's economic and strategic benefits for the meat and poultry industry, underscoring the agreement's ability to level the playing field for American workers and businesses in the world's fastest growing economic region. The letter also notes the TPP's vital role in reducing and eliminating tariff and non-tariff barriers, and in promoting transparency, driving innovation and supporting robust labor standards in international trade. Furthermore, the letter details specific benefits for red meat exports, arguing, for example, that U.S. producers of lamb and sheep would gain unprecedented access to new markets under the TPP, while beef producers and processors would no longer experience a competitive trade disadvantage in the region.
