AMS Postpones Timeline to Add Additional Product to Ham Primal and Pork Carcass Cutout

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

(North American Meat Institute)

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued a new Notice to the Trade delaying the implementation of adding ham muscle cuts to the pork carcass cutout used in USDA Market News reports until October 31, 2016. AMS initially announced plans to implement the enhancement of the pork carcass cutout by September 12, 2016. The postponed implementation follows a recent review of updated cutout calculations, in which AMS learned more labor costs were applied than necessary, which changed the impact of the enhancement on the daily cutout value. AMS is in the process of correcting the analysis of the updated ham primal and pork carcass cutout values. Once complete, this historical comparison data will be made available.
