The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) will participate in the Chicago Hot Dog Fest, August 5-7, in Chicago, Illinois. The fourth annual festival will feature a variety of Vienna Beef hot dog offerings from Chicago's top vendors and will include a speaker series with some of the city's most prominent hot dog historians and restaurateurs. The NHDSC will have a booth, where attendees can learn about the history of hot dogs, purchase bumper stickers and test their hot dog knowledge for a chance to win a Vienna Beef hot dog kit. Additional details about the event are available here .

NAMI's Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and NHDSC's Queen of Wien Janet Riley will participate in a speaker session focused on ingredients in hot dogs, and how they are made, with Jeff Sindelar, Ph.D., from the University of Wisconsin. Riley also will partake in a debate regarding whether a hot dog is a sandwich during the festival in Chicago. Riley, who will argue a hot dog is not a sandwich, will debate Chicago History Museum Historian Peter T. Alter on August 5 at 4 p.m. CT in Chicago's Lincoln Park.

New polling conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of the NHDSC shows that 57 percent of Americans say a hot dog is not a sandwich, compared to 33 percent who believe it is, and 10 percent who remain undecided.
