The Food and Drug Administration announced it is delaying enforcement of menu labeling guidance as a result of language in the omnibus appropriations bill enacted December 18, 2015. FDA is considering all comments received and plans to issue final menu labeling guidance soon. Covered establishments were initially required to comply with the new rule by December 1, 2016, but FDA is amending the compliance date to one year after the final guidance is issued. The menu labeling final rule requires calorie information to be listed on menus and menu boards in chain restaurants and similar retail food establishments with 20 or more locations.
