The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) extended the comment period by 30 days for the Federal Register notice “ National Residue Program: Monitoring Chemical Hazards .” The notice states FSIS is standardizing the approach it will take in instances when sample results from livestock and poultry carcasses reveal chemicals for which neither the U.S. Food and Drug Administration nor the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have set tolerances or regulatory levels. FSIS previously addressed such instances on a case-by-case basis. The new deadline to submit comments is March 30, 2016. Comments regarding this notice may be submitted either online or by mail to Docket Room Manager, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service, 1400 Independence Avenue SW, Mailstop 3782, Room 8-163B, Washington, DC 20250-3700.
