Five of the nation’s most powerful business groups joined the U.S. Coalition for TPP, of which NAMI is a member, to ensure the ratification and implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. The American Farm Bureau, the Business Roundtable, the National Association of Manufacturers and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce joined the Emergency Committee for American Trade in supporting the next phase of the Coalition’s efforts to push for the expeditious passage of TPP. The groups said they plan to intensify education and advocacy efforts in Congress and around the U.S. to build support to secure passage of the agreement. The TPP, which was signed by the U.S. and 11 other nations on February 3, 2016, in Auckland, New Zealand, would cover nearly 40 percent of the global economy and is projected to add $225 billion to the global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025, and $77 billion to US GDP.
