NACMPI to Meet to Address Listeria Control. NACMPI to Meet to Address Listeria Control

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

(North American Meat Institute)

The National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) is sponsoring a public meeting on March 29-30, 2016, to review and determine the steps the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) should take to ensure better Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) control at retail. The NACMPI is seeking input whether FSIS should require retail stores to take certain actions. Specifically, the NACMPI will consider whether FSIS should rely on regulation, the Food Code, or some other means to determine those actions, and if there are additional information sources FSIS should consider when deciding the appropriate steps to take. NACMPI also will review and discuss whether FSIS should pursue mandatory features on labels of processed, not ready-to-eat (NRTE) products, such as requiring the statement, “raw meat/poultry, for safety cook thoroughly.” The meeting will take place in the auditorium at the Patriot Plaza III building, 355 E Street SW, Washington, DC 20024.
