Following this week’s signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. and United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce expressed strong support for the trade agreement in a letter to Congressional leadership. The groups stress the benefits of TPP for the overall U.S. economy, including expanded access to more than 485 million consumers and an increase in export-supported jobs that pay, on average, 15-20 percent higher than non-trade related positions. The groups also state TPP would benefit minority-owned companies by granting these businesses more access to foreign markets and suppliers, and due to the fact that minority firms are more than three times as likely to have businesses that generate 100 percent of all sales in exports compared to non-minority firms, among other reasons.
