NAMI and the U.S. Hide, Skin and Leather Association joined 104 other organizations in sending a letter to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx to offer suggestions for developing key metrics as part of the Port Performance Freight Statistics Program contained in Section 6018 of the recently enacted Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act. The associations state that key performance indicators (KPIs) should be developed in four important areas: metrics for activities at the berth, metrics for activities within marine terminal yards, metrics for truck gate operations and metrics for on-dock rail operations. The letter offers specific metrics for each KPI, and urges the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to include shipper and cargo representatives in the working group tasked with designing port performance measures.
