The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced a new effort to advance research and education in food and agriculture to address challenges posed by a strained food system and to resolve the technical and workforce issues facing the food and agriculture industries. Specifically, the OSTP effort aims to increase the participation of students from all backgrounds in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to build a more skilled workforce of agriculture professionals. Organizations interested in assisting OSTP to bolster agriculture research and education, broaden STEM participation in agriculture or increase diversity of the food and agriculture workforce are encouraged to make a commitment here by February 1, 2016. Over the next several months, OSTP plans to highlight both the progress made to date and new commitments secured. For examples of suggested commitments, click here.
