The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will hold a hearing January 13-15, 2016, to discuss the impact of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement on the U.S. economy and specific industry sectors. The hearing will include presentations from more than 65 business groups, labor organizations, foreign governments and other interested parties that requested to testify on the merits of the agreement. Steve Sothmann, president of the U.S. Hide, Skin and Leather Association, a NAMI affiliate, will testify at the hearing. The hearing serves to assist the ITC in composing a congressionally mandated report examining the economic impact of the TPP. The ITC expects to send the report to President Obama and Congress by May 18, 2016. Although the deadline to request to testify at the hearing has already passed, other written submissions will be accepted until February 15. Additional details regarding the hearing and ways to submit comments are available here.
