NAMI and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asking for a 90-day extension of the comment period for the recently published request for information and comments regarding the use of the term "natural" in the labeling of human food products. The organizations said more time is needed to provide the most comprehensive responses, given the number and complexity of the issues involving the use of the term "natural" for all food products, and because the comment period occurs over several significant holidays. The organizations also underscored the potentially significant impact responses could have on the industries regulated by FDA and the Food Safety and Inspection Service.
